Successful Students Eat Smart and Move More is a social marketing intervention intended to create a buzz around school wellness policies, so that policies are implemented, monitored, evaluated, discussed regularly and modified as needed to meet the changing needs of schools, staff and students. Successful Students resources support each of the Local Wellness Policy (LWP) requirements.

Nutrition Education and Physical Activity

The LWP shall include goals for nutrition education, physical activity and other school-based activities that are designed to promote student wellness in a manner that the local educational agency (LEA) determines is appropriate.

Food For Thought is a K-5 curriculum that allows for teaching the nutrition objectives of the Healthful Living Standard Course of Study while integrating the concepts of healthy eating and physical activity into Math and English Language Arts. To download the 30 lesson plans, click HERE.

Energizers are classroom-based physical activities that integrate physical activity with academic concepts. These are short (about 10 minutes) activities that elementary and middle school classroom teachers can use to provide activity to students to help meet the requirement of the North Carolina State Board of Education's Healthy Active Children Policy. Activities can be downloaded HERE.

Nutrition Guidelines for All Foods Available During the School Day

The LWP shall include nutrition guidelines selected by the local educational agency for all foods available on each school campus under the local educational agency during the school day with the objectives of promoting student health and reducing childhood obesity.
